Jack served as a Squad Leader, Designated Platoon Marksman with 1st CAV in Baghdad, Iraq from April 2004 to October 1, 2004 when he was killed in action. He was killed at a traffic checkpoint by a bullet fired toward suspicious car.

Jack had a sincere love for his country. In a letter he wrote after 9/11 he said, “…everyone back home had the assurance from me and everyone here training to be infantry that our country will be safe.” Jack was the “real deal” a true hero.
