The Afghanistan Conflict, Operation Enduring Freedom, started on October 7, 2001 in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. It was the beginning of the United States' war on terrorism. The goal was to capture Osama Bin Laden, eliminate al-Qaeda and remove the Taliban regime which supported al-Qaeda.

The Taliban and al-Qaeda fought forces from Afghanistan, the Northern Alliance, ISAF (International Security Force - international military force from 37 nations led by NATO), NATO (The North Atlantic Treaty Organization) including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands and France.

Osama bin Laden was born in Saudi Arabia. In 1987, he founded the terrorist organization,
al-Qaeda, to unite Muslims and begin a jihad (holy war) against Israel and Western countries.
Bin Laden was implicated in an attempted assassination of Egyptian President Mubarak and
