The Vietnam Conflict, 1957 to April 30, 1975, took place in Vietnam. It followed the First Indochina War 1946 to 1954. The war was fought by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam
(DRV or North Vietnam) and the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam
(Viet Cong, Charlie, VC, or Cong) against the South Vietnamese’ Republic of Vietnam
(Army of the Republic of Vietnam, ARVN) in an effort to unify the country.

North Vietnam was Communist and South Vietnam was a democratic government.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and China supported North Vietnam, and the
United States and its allies supported South Vietnam. The allies were the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
